AIDS-Focus Training Subcommittee Charge
The goal of the "Partners in Information Access for Public Health Professionals"
initiative is to provide public health professionals with timely, convenient
access to information resources. A major component of this initiative
is providing training:
- For NN/LM network librarians in resources useful to public health
professionals
- For public health professionals in the use of technology to identify
and access relevant information resources
- In relevant information resources for students in academic public
health programs
The AIDS-Focus Training Subcommittee, which will consist of representatives
from CDC, NLM and NN/LM, will have primary responsibility for developing
a training program which is to be based on HIV/AIDS information and
resources. The training program will also be adaptable to a high-tech
presentation. NLM will advise on the content portion of the program
and CDC will advise on the technology portion. Specifically, the AIDS-focus
Training Committee is charged to:
- Define the objectives and desired outcomes of the training program
- Define the initial target audience to be trained
- Determine the scope of the training
- Identify available resources and preferred
mechanisms for delivering the training
- Identify major course components and develop the program
- Identify or design appropriate program materials
- Identify the strategies and media to be used
- Develop a project time line
- Suggest appropriate measures for determining the impact of training

Training Subcommittee Charge

CDC, NLM, NN/LM, and HRSA, will have primary responsibility for the
following:
- Identify existing training courses/programs within the NN/LM which
are either specifically designed to focus on training health sciences
librarians on public health resources or can be adapted to focus on
training health sciences librarians. Specifically, the subcommittee
is expected to determine the following for existing courses/programs:
- course
- scope of the training
- contents of the training
- specific public health resources covered
- prerequisites
- evaluation component
- target audience
- mechanisms/approaches used for delivering the training
- materials used
- continuing education credits
- length of training
- frequency of updating
- Identify individuals with the expertise to provide training in public
health resources for health sciences librarians and their availability
to provide instruction
- Make recommendations as to:
- suggested implementation strategies (how the steering committee
should proceed)
- suggested methods to make training available to NN/LM network
members
- suggested timeline to initiate training
- suggested collaborations
